Thursday, October 8th 2009 saw our fourth Hop Picker Carvery Lunch. Each year has been different according to who is franchising the business and we have had to sort various things out each time, and this year was no different but, with the happy feeling that Hop Pickers will remain permanently under the guidance of The Holiday Inn, we shall be able to expect a repeat of this year's excellent service. The food was hot, colourful and well presented; we had some waitress service, and the staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant.
Forty six people came; one regular, Jean Newport, and one first-timer, Jenny Hills, had to cancel as they were not fit on the day and Miss O'Halloran was missed by many people but we hope to see them all next year. Our former chairman, Carolyn Nelms, flew over from France (£1 each way courtesy of Ryan Air!) and introduced our new Chairman, Sarah Constantine, who told us how she hoped the ASA would be moving forward with the 'new' coeducational school. The Headmaster was unable to come but wished us all a 'very pleasant occasion'. (We hear that he has just returned from a very brief visit to Australia to celebrate his parents' 60th Wedding Anniversary, a wonderful achievement and well worth celebrating).
We thank our regular photographer, Brenda Crump (lovely photos except for people closing their eyes this year!); Sandra Noel and Sarah Constantine, also Gilly Bond for taking over the Raffle ticket sales which was marvellous. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves.
